Harp Lessons
“Laurie is an excellent harp teacher who is able to combine the technical demands of the instrument with musicianship and display this to her students. She is able to expect musical excellence in a kind and compassionate way regardless of stage of development, from a beginning middle school student to adult students.”
Mary, mother of a student
“I’ve always wanted to play the harp…”
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had people approach me and say those exact words! If you’ve ever said this to yourself, know that it’s never too late to start playing this beautiful instrument. Anyone, at any age, can start playing the harp. I’ve taught students ranging in age from 6 to 70+ years old and I enjoy working with students of all levels. No previous musical training is necessary.
I love teaching and I’m fascinated with the process of learning. As a teacher, it’s always a thrill for me to see my students light up when they hear themselves making music at the harp. I enjoy the uniqueness of each student and strive to help them reach their own personal goals. Some of my best memories and experiences growing up involved music studies with my teachers and mentors. I’m always honored to have the opportunity to work with students and pass this gift on to the next generation.
Some of my students have gone on to become professional harpists, music teachers, arts administrators, published composers and arrangers, and competition winners. My greatest goal as a teacher is to provide my students with the tools they need to enjoy music, express themselves at the harp, and develop their skills at sharing music with others.
In addition to teaching private students in my home studio I have also been a harp instructor at:
Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Camp
American Festival of the Arts
Houston Summer Harp Festival
Houston Youth Symphony
High School for the Performing and Visual Arts
